I just listened to today’s program with Dr. Mary Grassa O’Neill and Dr. Bill McKersie. I understand he reasons behind a move to Catholic academies and away from parish schools. However, there is a big drawback to this.

My wife and I are more than half way through sending our five children to a parish school in the archdiocese. Our kids are receiving a great Catholic education because there is a partnership between the educators and the parish. More specifically, there is a partnership between the principal and the pastor. At the core of the Catholic academy movement there seems to be a partnership between the educators and business people or fundraisers. I agree that our Catholic schools need to have a sound financial foundation, but we should not remove the local pastoral aspect of Catholic education in the process.

Thanks for this program. It would be great if the listeners could have direct interaction with the host and the quests.
